Diplomacy between the Great Realm of R'lyeh and the Awakened Dreaming Clans

With the current crisis solved the R'lyehan ship has returned to signaling to the station to allow it to come in.

When the unknown ship enters their space the few constructor ships milling around the system start to hide behind asteroids, moons, and the local gas giants. A tiny fleet of puny armed ships move in to intercept, maintaining distance away from the ship while broadcasting all manner of signals and transmissions to get it to respond.

The ship ignores them and countinues to signal to the station to open up for it.

When the ship ignores their hails the ships wait until the incoming ship has just entered optimum range of their ballistic guns and begin to fire with impunity, choosing what they determine to be nonessential components of the ship in order to cripple it rather than destroy. They spread to execute a strategy of containment, surrounding it while the furthest ship fires its engines, increasing velocity faster than a simple intercept course.

[You are aware that you just attacked a small shuttle, right?]

In response to this the ship sends an emergency signal to the rest of the fleet and charges its remaining engines to crash in the nearby space station.

[All you said was ship, the smallest warp capable ship in Stellaris is a corvette.]

(I can't edit messages on my phone. You also realize your shuttle kept approaching a newly built space station while ignoring the hails of its defensive fleet that has never seen aliens before.)

[In the previous thread I mentioned that the corvette in question sent out a shuttle and that it was that which approched the station, I probably should have reminded you of this.

Well you had already met three alien species (although admittedly one encounter was less than pleasant).]

[Alright, although this was developing into a rather interesting first contact...]

A shuttle is sent out hailing the space station.

(It can keep going, all I'd have to change is deploying gunboats to intercept the shuttle while the military ships surrounded the frigate)

[Okay, I kind of like the current aprroach because it gives a good image of how species with no way of understanding one another could easily missunderstand the other.]

Seeing the ships interceppt it's course the shuttle stopped and countinued to signal to the station to open up for it. Meanwhile the Corvette, seeing what was happening made ready to leave the system while setting up the shields.

The ships continue to try hailing the corvette while the ill-equipped personnel aboard the station attempt to get the shuttle to respond in something they can understand. The military ships stall for a moment from not understanding the sudden spike in the ship's energy signiture from the raised shield, not knowing if it was some form of weapon or or a communication attempt.

The Corvette stays where it is and while ready to defend itself does not do anything. the shuttle starts opening and closing it's airlock to give the station a sign to do it itself.

Instead of the station opening up one of the quarantining gunboats pulls alongside the shuttle with its airlock open for boarding.

Realising what they are doing it closes it's airlock and wait for their next move.

The gunboat continues its approach with its airlock open. On the other side of the door a cautious but eager security team stands waiting to assess whether the foreign object has hostile intentions or not. Meanwhile the station bounces messages on every wavelength it can to both the boxed in shuttle and the the surrounded frigate begging for information. After a while the insistent verbal transmissions stop and pictures are sent instead with an outline of their own shuttle showing it opening its airlock, the gunboat transfering over a few beings who then return to the gunboat, and an outline of the station opening up its airlock.

The shuttle countinues to do nothing for a while but then it does open it's airlock again to let it be boarded. The corvette is however still suspicious and stays ready for battle.

The gunboat fully docks with the shuttle as well as it's able and the security team travels from its own airlock into the airlock of the shuttle not knowing what they're going to encounter.

As the doors of the shuttle opens the boarding party stands face to face with six fishmen, armed with strange weapons with unknown power pointed towards them. Behind them stands a vaguely humanoid creature with a mass of tentacles, looking at them with its black eyes, as if sizing them up. There seems to emit a very faint sound from it but other than that the group is silent.

The security team had entered with their weapons lowered, but upon seeing the weapons raised at them two of the security team immediately slam their ballistic shields onto the ground while the other three crouch behind them with their weapons leveled. The three in the back start to lower their weapons to see if the aliens will follow suit.

The creatures ignore them and countinue to stand still. Finally after a while their apparant leader started speaking, and while guttural and somewhat distorted the words were in the language of the clansmen:

"You stand in the presence of a Star-Gazer of R'lyeh, the chosen of the Great Old Ones. We come to treat with you."

One holding a shield addresses the being "You stand in the presence of a Yuxun security team that never thought it would be needed. You could have avoided all of this waiting around by trying to communicate with the station. You have the privilege of being the first to be assessed for violent intent and asked to consent to a search for explosives before meeting with one of our leaders. You may comply and prove your benign intent or leave peacefully."

This caused the tentacles of the being to twist violently, as if agitated:

"We did, how are we to blame for you missunderstanding our signals? As you are the one who have shown violent intent, boarding our vessel for no good reason we will decline your proposal of searching it. We came here in good faith but if you do not comply then you will have earned the ire of a realm more powerful than you."

"We only received one transmission, and that was a command to open our station. No reason was given, not even a name to identify by. Only radio silence afterward and no response was received by any of our transmissions. This boarding was conducted to identify your intent and to establish communications."
