Short Description: A race of enigmatic and strangely alluring ship-based avian traders. Their interactions with the galactic community is limited to commercial activities ranging from scavenging tomb worlds for artifacts to sell, to leasing industrial capacity and R&D to other races in exchange for dockyard access. In the past they have been regarded as vermin from picking asteroids and planets clean of minerals and fuel to keep their ancient ships held together.

Their ships consist of a few massive ships that house their civilians, as well as a couple equally massive factory ships. Their defensive fleet consists smaller, albeit still large warships. A whole host of smaller craft make up the bulk of the fleet, all of them acquired from species in the past.

Their society is largely based on acquiring wealth for the fleet, whether it be by prospecting tomb worlds, mineral deposits, or through trade. The job with the greatest reward and greatest risk is of crewing the fleet’s scout vessels. Rather than risk their entire fleet by making the same jump, the bulk of the fleet slowly moves from empty system to empty system, using its smaller ships to scout ahead for dangers and trade opportunities. Scout ships are the most likely to be destroyed by galactic megafauna, encounter automated defenses and ships, and all manner of dangers. However the crew of these expendable ships are given first dibs to new alien markets. Happening to be on the crew of a scout ship when a new alien homeworld is discovered is the difference between living a full life of luxury, to languishing in obscurity until death.

Species Description: Though males are more colorful and vibrant, both males and females carry themselves in such a way as to be, if not attractive to, at minimum compelling to other races. All dealings done outside of the artificial environment of their ships are done through special form fitting environmental suits that keep their bodies at the perfect temperature and humidity. Living in artificial atmospheres have left them unable to tolerate too much variation in heat and cold.

Despite being from the same species, males and females exhibit unique traits from each other. Males are solitary and rarely seen off of their ships. They are also possessed of a widely unnecessary overpowering strength. Whereas females are communal and cannot stand to be alone, but can cope with having access to direct communications.

Recent History: They have been wandering the stars for an undetermined number of years. They will speak as if it was recent in order to build familiarity with planet bound aliens and to stir sympathy. However they are noticeably uneasy around autonomous robotics and sentient AI, and negotiations with wormhole using civilizations will consist entirely of selling advanced warp drives, growing more and more pleading and forceful in tone before leaving and destroying wormhole generators.

Military: 2
Navy: 5 Spending the entirety of their existence aboard starships, necessitates they they be good at using them. They very rarely attack with their warships, and are unlikely to attack at all unless their civilian ships are. Rather than engage overwhelming numbers of ships in a straight up fight, if their civilian ships are threatened in a habited system they will immediately unleash a full bombardment on the surface, threatening full extermination if they are not allowed to leave.
Ground: 1 The only portion of warfare they even remotely excel in is putting down other scavengers with their advanced wrist mounted weapons. Engagements longer than a skirmish against organized opposition is foreign to them.

Economy: 4
Industry: 2 Thanks to their regenerative hulls, their need to manufacture replacement parts for their own ships is minimal.
Tertiary Goods 4 Their factory ships are capable of producing a wide range of goods, from intoxicants, foodstuffs, electronics, and even personal starships.

Technology: 3 They are just as likely to research ancient artifacts and produce them as they are to contract out their lab facilities.
Research: 3
Reverse Engineering: 3

Diplomacy: 4
Understanding: 4 They will go through great lengths so study and familiarize themselves with other cultures and the proper proceedings necessary to strike a deal.
Espionage: 2 Their interest in infiltrating the planet bound races only goes so far as to understand their markets and assess trade potential.

Culture: 2
Internal Stability: 5 Their ships are governed almost exclusively by male captains and senior officers, with prominent female officers being an exception rather than the rule. For the most part society falls in line with this, but every so often chaotic fights for supremacy among the officers and the female deckhands will erupt, leaving several injured and few dead and holes in the chain of command that need plugging.
Marketability: 1 Ironically, corporate culture isn’t very marketable.

Quirk- Expert Linguists: Though they do not possess the instant translators of fallen empires, their very survival hinges on trade with outsiders. Throughout the centuries they have become very good at deciphering other species’ languages and teaching their own simplified trade language. So long as their prospective trading partners cooperate with them, they can get basic communications established within a few days.

Quirk: On Demand Retooling- Their factory ships can be retooled to mass produce anything but ships. As such war materiel and other manufacturing traditionally subsumed within an empire’s industrial capacity is integrated into their Tertiary Markets.
